Terms of Use

The rules for using UnstuckMyBrain. They're short, and we've kept them in plain language.

Last updated 13 June 2026

UnstuckMyBrain (the “site”) is run by Subverting Complexity (“we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use it.

What the site is

UnstuckMyBrain is a free, self-help tool that runs in your web browser. It helps you break a stuck task down and plan a way to start it. Anything you type into it is saved on your own device, in your browser. We don't see it, store it, or have any way to recover it. There's no account and no sign-up.

It isn't professional advice

The site and everything on it is general information, not medical, psychological, or other professional advice. Using it doesn't create any kind of professional relationship between you and us. Please read the Disclaimer in full before relying on anything here.

Your entries are your responsibility

Because your writing lives only in your browser, it's yours to look after. Clearing your browser data, switching devices, or a browser fault can erase it, and we can't get it back for you. The workbook has an Export option for keeping your own backup — please use it if your entries matter to you.

Acceptable use

You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:

Who owns what's here

The writing, design, and code on the site belong to Subverting Complexity, or are used with permission. You're welcome to use the workbook for yourself and to share links to it. All other rights are reserved.

The site is provided “as is”

We offer the site free of charge and provide it “as is” and “as available”. We try to keep it working well, but we don't promise it will always be available, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose. We may change, pause, or stop the site at any time.

Limits of our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, your inability to use it, your reliance on anything in it, or the loss of entries saved in your browser. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under South African law that can't be excluded, including under the Consumer Protection Act.

Links to other sites

The site may link to, or load content from, other services we don't control (for example, the typeface it loads from Google Fonts, or research it refers to). We're not responsible for those other services or their content.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, that counts as accepting the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa deal with any dispute about them.
